We are half a mile away from Bidford-on-Avon, William Shakespeare’s most famous and favourite drinking place in Warwickshire, where one night he got so drunk with friends on his way back home to Stratford he spent the night under a crab tree just outside Bidford. When roused from his stupor the following day, the ‘Bard’ neatly rounded up his impression of the villages he loved, so close to his birth place…
